RE: LETTER OF SUPPORT FOR A REGIONAL MOBILITY AUTHORITY FOR THE CITY OF EL PASO
Dear Mr. Williamson:
Please consider this our letter of support from the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of
Commerce, its Board of Directors and almost 1,000 small, minority and women
owned business members for the formation of a Regional Mobility Authority (RMA)
in El Paso.
The Hispanic Chamber supports this program because of the positive economic
factors that it can bring to our city. Our city has traditionally lagged in
transportation infrastructure development, and as our transportation needs
continue to grow, our ability to meet these demands will diminish. An
accelerated development of transportation projects will hopefully allow El Paso
to stay at par with population growth. Additionally, the potential new
construction dollars for the city, and additional opportunities for our local,
small, minority and women owned business enterprises should bring economic
prosperity to our small business community.
One of the eight guiding “points of progress” in the Hispanic Chamber’s mission
is to search for and provide contracting opportunities for our members. Should
El Paso receive non-traditional construction dollars from the planned RMA, we
strongly recommend that priority consideration be given to utilizing local
design and construction companies, for both prime and sub-contract work to
complete the projects.
Further, as El Paso’s recognized small business experts, we are committed to
assisting you in identifying qualified contractors to perform on these jobs,
and also assisting any qualified businesses in obtaining and utilizing the
valuable State HUB and DBE Certification program.
Therefore, on behalf of the small, minority and women owned business market
that we proudly serve, and the opportunities that we foresee for our local
small business market, the Hispanic Chamber submits this letter of support
wholeheartedly endorsing a Regional Mobility Authority (RMA) to be established
in the city of El Paso.
Sincerely,
EL PASO HISPANIC CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
